Way back in August, a group of us shot a music video for Michael Kiwanuka's beautiful song 'Always Waiting'. The video was directed by the brilliant Sebastian Solberg and was for a competition held by Genero.tv - the winning video becomes the official music video for the song. It was a great weekend with some fantastic people and, despite the challenges of awful weather and a night shoot, we pulled it off!
My role for this project was in production as 'art director' and 'behind the scenes photographer'. This meant I was in charge of sourcing props, making props and dressing the set to make it look perfect, all whilst taking photos of other busy people.
The video was set in the 1950's and it was really fun creating a convincing vintage look for each scene. My favourite set in the video was the nighttime picnic. This is for three reasons:
1. It is what romantic dreams are made of.
2. It highlights our rediscovered British pride and, as a Great Britain 2012 enthusiast, makes me really happy when I look at it.
3. Both the points above emulate what 'Old Regan' would have been feeling.
One of the biggest challenges for me in this shoot was having to provide the universe. I'm not being melodramatic- the universe was actually a prop requirement. As we were working to a budget, I decided against going fishing in space and decided to make a smaller paper mache version myself. I had not done any paper mache since primary school so I rather naively thought that this process would be simple. It was not. However, I did find a really good website that helped a huge amount. The end result was, if I may say so myself, amazing. Just see how proud I am...

Unfortunately, my universe was cut from the final edit...but I learnt a huge amount during the process, so not all was lost!
Watch the finished video below and please be kind and share it with as many people as you can, we would all be very grateful:
